MYSTERY SOLVED!

Thanks to LINDA for finding my mystery blogger! I love a good mystery!!

The blog I lost belongs to KELLI.

Check them both out!

HELP! I'm looking for a blogger...

...that I came across Saturday, July 21. I wanted to come back to your blog, but I guess I failed to link you to my blog. You were going to be cooking yesterday. You posted a photo with a BEATRIX POTTER COUNTRY COOKING BOOK in it. I remember I was excited the see that book and I immediately went to order one. Perhaps that's why I left without first making sure that I could find my way back to your blog.

Are you out there? If you happen by this way, please let me know where to find you.

I REMEMBER

I remember my grandmothers.
They loved me as I was.
They sheltered me.
They nourished me with homemade sweets and hugs.
They protected me and swept me up in arms strong with love.
They were the stock, the lineage from which I am of.
Seemingly breakable, they were women of substance,.
holding family together with dignity and grace,
birthing babies on their home-beds within,
bearing child after child and delivering twins,
clothing little ones with stitches they had sewn,
providing in spite of sickness and aching bones.
Grandma’s plague was asthma, Granny’s, her weak heart.
In spite of all they survived and endured from the start.
I remember my grandmothers,
how their sweetness embraced my soul.
Not enough cherished memories, however, do I hold.
Their time was cut short before they were told
that I recall their love and recollect their lives,
that I recognize myself in their gentle blue eyes,
that I treasured their touch and their caressing,
and that when they went, they left me with a blessing.

Around The House

Pretty little reamers

Lemonade Set

I love this chair! I don't allow anyone to sit in it though...it's actually kind of fragile. Love the old needlework on the back. I bought this while vising my daughter in Roanoke, VA. Great shopping up there! This chair was sitting outside the consignment shop - she hit the brakes and turned around knowing how I love chairs. Yup, I think I'm a chair addict. I'll show you more of them later.

Another find in Roanoke...my stone bunny coasters. I bought them from the lady who had them made. One has a little verse on it that she wrote.

More Around The House

My Paris 'Bunny Hutch' filled with some pretties.

Had to have this as I love birds and this reminds me so of a flock of little Parisian birds I saw lined up along a hedge-fence in a park in Paris. My Ring of Sparrows 'bowl'...I put votives in it.

This sits in our eating area behind the kitchen island. The little ladies are part of my collection that you can see in the sidebar "Flickr" section.

I love birds, so I love birdhouses also...this is one of my favorite ones.

A black painted chest that I found in a consignment shop. Oh yes!...another chair I found in Roanoke. It's a chair and a half that two people or three kids can sit in. I love to lie across it, usually falling asleep.

Hot July...But no rain here.

Hot July brings cooling showers,

Apricots and gillyflowers.

ON TONIGHT'S PLATE...

You saw the beautiful vegetables we were given yesterday. Here's what I did with them this evening.

How beautiful! Loved the tomatoes in my little Gail Pittman dish. Cucumbers and onions in vinegar - good!

Squash, zucchini and onions

Little wax beans and shallots sauteed together.

To top it all off - country cornbread - a big hoecake hot from the oven with butter melting on it!

Garden Bounty

We may have an all veggie meal tonight. Our son-in-law's parents brought this bounty for us yesterday. Hmmm, how to cook this up?
IDEAS ANYONE?

This Evening At Our Table

Steamed red-skinned potatoes, steamed asparagus, garlic cheese toast and Atlantic Salmon poached in Court-bouillon. "Court-bouillon is a broth used to poach fish, seafood, or vegetables. Don't let the French name fool you. It's quite simple to make and will add great flavor to your dish."
The ingredients:

There are many recipes for Court-bouillon. This recipe for salmon poached in Court-bouillon is from fellow 'board' poster Mia:

~Poached Salmon~
4 servings

1-1/2 cups Chablis or other dry white wine (I HAD ONLY CHARDONNAY - it was fine)
1/2 cup water
1 onion, sliced
1 lemon, sliced
4 springs fresh parsley
1 teaspoon dried dillweed
1/4 teaspoon freshly ground pepper
4 1-inch thick salmon steaks or filets (about 1-1/2 pounds)
NOTE FROM ME............I added a few capers...only because I love them.

Combine the first 7 ingredients in a large skillet or poacher. Bring to a boil; cover, reduce heat and simmer ten minutes. Add the salmon steaks or filets; cover and gently simmer 8 minutes or until salmon flakes easily. Do not over cook. Remove from poaching liquid and serve.

NOTE: Add a fish poacher to my wish list...they are so pretty!

I steamed both the asparagus (in my new asparagus steam pot) and the potatoes from Mother-in-law's garden. I mixed up some Bernaise Sauce to go on the asparagus and salmon.

Hubby said he would probably have to pay $50 for a meal like this in a restaurant...I told him "Just leave it on the table when you're finished!"

~MARMALADE MORNING~

An over-easy orb cheerfully awakens,

spreading citrus sunbeams ‘cross

every nook and cranny of my soul.

A thirsty tangerine sunrise drinks honeydew dry.

Marshmallow clouds dapple a blueberry sky.

Curtains open to toasted cinnamon hills,

shadows waffle on my windowsill.

Cherries jam and oranges crush

tender leaves into bubbly ginger tea for me

on this marmalade morning.
