~AKA DOROTHY~

One of the most beloved and watched movies of all times is The Wizard of Oz and one will most likely find it on the television on any given Thanksgiving.

I know you have all seen photos of my only granddaughter, Kathryn, but have you seen her playing the role of Dorothy? She became 'hooked' on The Wizard of Oz at a very, very young age. In fact, even before she was born, I bought a pair of sparkly ruby-red shoes for her. Since then, she has had a new pair of ruby-red shoes each time her foot size changes. When she was just a baby, I would sing "Somewhere Over The Rainbow" to her. When she was around eighteen months old, she could sing and dance to that song. She was enamoured with Dorothy. She was the perfect Dorothy, acting out her scenes with precision. I had a seamstress make a Dorothy dress for her and she had the pigtails and all. These pictures are of Kathryn, aka Dorothy, when she was around three.

DOROTHY CRYING FOR AUNTIE EM

One evening two years ago, at my home, Dorothy, er, I mean Kathryn, fell and busted her chin open. She had to get to the hospital, but she would not go until she was taken to her own home to be dressed in her Dorothy dress. That's the way she went to the emergency room.

I must add that my daughter, Kathryn's mommy, also loved The Wizard of Oz. Even in high school, she would choose to stay home to watch it rather than go out with her friends. Kathryn comes by her love of all things Oz honestly.

Kathyrn is too cute as Dorothy...I love The Wizard of Oz too. I stil watch it every time it comes on TV. My dad and I always used to watch it when I was growing up, and I still love it as much as I did back then. I can totally relate to your daughter staying home to watch it instead of going out with friends. I probably would have done the same thing. Thanks for sharing the photos. If I would like to participate in Family Foto Friday, what should I do? My email is kellichad98@comcast.net Thanks!!

Deborah your little Kathryn is adorable - I didn't know she was actually 'Dorothy'. How sweet that she has enjoyed acting this part since her toddler days - perhaps she'll play Dorothy on stage some day............I'll be looking for her at Raleigh Little Theater!

Glad you are doing OK and obviously survived minding the boys - bet you had a busy but fun time.

Still hope to see you soon. Vanessa is going to Brazil for about 5 weeks and then hopes to bring her Mom back - perhaps we can show her around and have lunch etc.

Hugs - Mary.

hello again Deborah

by looking over your blog I would definitely say you should enter.

Want to comment on Kathryn playing Dorothy....so adorable. Aren't children so sweet...That is my favorite thing to do is just sit and watch them talk and play make believe. Its so funny to see this little skit for I have my own grand daughter dressed as Dorothy as my screen saver. I'll have to show you some time.
