My granddaughter Kathryn and I rode through my neighborhood after school Friday. We have several ponds closeby and we love to see what's going on at the ponds. This is the time of year to see families of geese and watch how the little ones grow into adults.

Proud parents

Stay with your papa, dears!

A gaggle of goslings

Curious little ones made their way out of the pond toward us.

Aren't they sweet?!

A Wonderful Time Was Had By All!

SUZANNA'S is Raleigh's place for treasure hunters to find retro and vintage, a place for friends to meet and a place to kick back and have fun.
Last evening was one of those times. The grand opening banner ribbon was up and the scissors were decorated for the 'ribbon'-cutting celebration. The treasures were in place to be found by the throng of people who came to find their heart's desires. We were treated to wine and hor d'oeuvres, the weather was gorgeous - it could not have been a better evening for the official grand opening of the new section of SuzAnna's!

The proud proprietoresses in their darling vintage aprons that could be bought right off them.

Pink Love

I passed up this silver teapot lamp...what was I thinking?! hmmm, wonder if it's still sitting in the cozy corner display? I may go back for it. It was a bargain!

The vintage hankies and aprons where hung with care

This lovely little victorian chair was finished with a beautiful pastoral upholstery.

The lovely owners of SuzAnna's - Anna and Suzanne ready to cut the 'ribbon'...........

...........and the opening is now official!

Some of the treasurer hunters and well-wishers.

Among those enjoying the evening's events: Vicki (who secretly reads our blogs!:)... isn't she cute in that vintage hat?... VANESSA, myself and MARY. Check out Vanessa and Mary's blogs for more about our evening at Suzanna's.

This is part of Sam's Country Porch and Garden next to Suzanna's - beautiful flowers, plants, veggies, old tools, and old rustic furniture.

Yes! A wonderful time was had by all!

Scenes from Abilene

We visited The Grace...there are three museums in the historic Grace Hotel -- The Art Museum, The History Museum and The Children's Museum. Built in 1909, The Grace is on the National Historic Register. It is a four-story, 55,000 square foot, missions-revival style building, representing the hopes of the western frontier.
The Grace Museum's Mallouf Boot shop is a recreation of local bootmaker Albert J. Mallouf's 1940s Brownwood, Texas Boot Shop.
The Grace History Museum featured rooms from the 20's, 30's, 40's. I was particularly drawn to the kitchens and especially to this kitchen table. It reminded me of my Granny who baked bread, roll, cakes and cookies every day.

This is GRACE NOTES...created by artist and musician Edward Weiss. This interactive sculpture is a life-size artwork of colors, shapes and sounds. It's brightly colored blocks and shapes are wooden touch pads designed for noise and hands-on play. We had plenty of fun here.

MORE LATER!

Abilene, Abilene
Prettiest town I ever seen.
Folks down there don't treat you mean
In Abilene, my Abilene.

I sit alone most every night
Watch them trains roll out of sight
Wish that they were carryin' me
To Abilene, my Abilene.

Crowded city, ain't nothin' free
Nothin' in this town for me
Wish to God that I could be
In Abilene, my Abilene.

How I wish that train would come
Take me back where I come from.
Take me where I want to be
In Abilene, my Abilene.

Rotgut whiskey numbs the brain
If I stay here I'll go insane.
Think I need a change of scene
To Abilene, my Abilene.

Outside my window cold rain falls,
Sit here starin' at the walls;
If I was home, I'd be serene
In Abilene, my Abilene.

Abilene is a 1963 song originally recorded by George Hamilton IV. Written by Bob Gibson and John D. Loudermilk.

Be back soon for the giveaway drawing!

I'm back from my few days away. It's late and I have a dental appointment tomorrow morning...well, a little more than just a dental appointment. Not sure that I will feel like posting on Wednesday.

I will draw a name from those who left comments while I was away for my surprise giveaway in a couple days.

I have some photos from our time in Virginia - hope you will all come back when I post those.
