Ode To A Rose©,
(Written in the style of “For I Shall Consider My Cat Jeoffry”
Christopher Smart (1722-1771)

For I will consider the Rose
For it is one of God’s perfect creations
For its colors are those found in the promise of a rainbow
For its petals are as smooth velvet
For its bud is as an embryo
For its scent can bring on a dizzying joyfulness
For its prickles can cause great pain
For its black spot causes much distress
For its roots cling unto Mother Earth
For it is presented to those loved
For it decorates the funeral vault
For it climbs o’er the country fence
For it winds through the walled trellis
For its thick hedge protects against enemy forces
For it draws the bee to it’s spirited pollen
For its hips are high in vitamins C and E
For it can be made into sweet syrups and jams and teas
For its oils add allure to intoxicating perfumes
For it reaches for the warmth of the summer sun
For it thrives on fertile, rich soil
For it brings forth sweat from the brow of its cultivator
For it takes on the names of aristocracy and commoners alike
For it left its imprint on ancient fossils found
For it welcomes those back who have been lost to our sight
For it escorts the bride from maidenhood to married woman
For it is held in a place of honor along with the victory
For its domesticity was spread to the four corners by warriors great
For it is gathered to the arms of the most talented contestant
For it is taken into sickrooms for its medicinal beauty
For its petals rain down on jubilant parades
For it stands above all others in a garden
For “that which we call a rose by any other name would smell as sweet."
For it is timeless

Good morning Deborah, Your rose poem is awesome and so true. I think you wrote that didn't you? I applaud you for great work. Even if you didn't write it LOL. Come over and tell me.

Have a great day and I hope you are well and back to your 'young' self. :)

I think you are right. I do not need a Margarita. Big happy smile!

Love...Jeanne

What a beautiful poem. I had to read it out loud. I really enjoyed it and so did my doggie audience.

Oh Deborah you are such a doll.
Thanks for the good wishes for birdie. He's not singing today but he is brighter and much more stable on his little feet.
It's still windy and snowy and cold.
Not ready for this yet are you?
Hugs from way over here
Claudie
P.S. Love your pink post. So many girls to visit it's taken me all week especially holding birdie and typing with one hand.
