Picnics and Cookouts
~
Friday's Favorite Family Foto

Apparently my family liked to have picnics and cookouts back in the 1920's. I remember when I was a child...NOT in the 1920's...going on picnics with my parents, aunts, uncles, grandparents. There was plenty of food and music. My dad and uncles played guitars and mandolins. Many photos I've found of those get-togethers show one of those musical instruments. Some of those picnics were near running creeks in beautiful West Virginia and I remember our car being driven right into the water and what fun it was to wash it there.
The photo above is apparently of a cookout. My great aunt Kate and uncle Roe are the couple in the middle. She's holding a frypan.

This is my great aunt Kate with some of the kids in the family...nieces and nephews - she had no children of her own. My dad is the boy standing on the left in this photo and his older brother is on the right. My uncle - on the right - was in an earlier Family Foto...he was the boxer.

I love old photos and I hope you all enjoy seeing them.

Let's go see what my friends have posted as their family photos today. Don't forget to leave a comment so they will know you visited.

Oh I was waiting for you.
You always have THE BEST pictures Deborah.
I hope that frying pan was for cooking and not hitting somebody over the head with. That's something I might do if they made me do all that cooking.
Great FOTO Friday.
Love you and get better that's an order!!.

I love these photos! Your family looks to be a loving, happy one...mine on the other hand looks to have hated each other and never smiled(ha!). I can only imagine what some of my women ancestors would have done with a cast iron frying pan and a man near by!!!!

Those photos are priceless. The car photo is to be treasured as a timeless piece of history. Your family looks so happy to be out and about in nature sharing love and friendships at a picnic.

These are so great. I really need to dig out my oldie and goodies and try to photogeaph them since our scanner is not working! Maybe that would work! These are so wonderful and weren't the good ole days the best- families visiting, sharing, eating, playing together! We have lost so much in this new culture. Our young folk have no idea! It is up to us to document and this meme is such a wonderful contribution to that! Thanks so much for sharing!!!!

Isn't it too bad that young families don't seem to picnic and have cookouts in the great outdoors anymore? Look at the faces of those children in your photo...they are having such a good time! That is the way to build wonderful memories!

Deborah,

I love these pictures! Those were the days...when all the relatives packed up the cold, fried chicken and slaw and headed down to the lake or river for a picnic and a nap (and a car wash perhaps ;-)

We have a book on the early history of the lake we live on in Michigan and there are tons of old pictures of picnics on the water from days of yore! Must have been a popular pastime!! Thanks for sharing!!

I just love to see old family photos. I have quit a few myself, but sad to say they don't have any info on the back about who they are. I love the photos of your family, they are such great treasures.

Our family loved getting together and eating too. My favorite time was the family reunions. We met at a place called Canes Mill. We would play baseball, horseshoes and go fishing. Every now and then someone would shoot a gator or water moccassin. The food was to die for. Gosh, I miss all of that.
